Making a Difference for Those Who Need It Most

Making a Difference for Those Who Need It Most

Do you remember hearing that the Clackamas Service Center (CSC) suffered from a fire in 2017? This devastating event has become something positive for the Center, and our community. As long-time supporters of the good work that CSC does for Clackamas County, we wanted to help. This summer before their opening, Clackamas Federal Credit Union volunteers rolled up their sleeves and spent two days doing some dirty work to help get CSC ready for their grand re-opening. Volunteers cleaned up items that had been in storage, cleaned and prepped the kitchen, and helped to organize fridges, the new shopping style market area, and more!

This year Clackamas also donated $10,000 to help CSC continue to offer lifesaving services to underserved members of our community. Debra Mason, Executive Director of CSC, noted how imperative this help is, “This donation helps to reopen our most important services, specifically our shopping style market and hot meals. When our community accesses our hunger relief services we are able to provide them with so much more: clothing, showers, medical, and dental to name a few. Without the generosity of Clackamas these services wouldn’t be possible.” Close to 600 households receive help from CSC’s new shopping style market – which allows those in-need to choose the foods they want to get, without limits.

As the temperatures drop, CSC’s services – such as warm meals, clothing, and warm showers – become even more necessary. Want to help out? Donations such as winter coats, socks, blankets, mittens/gloves, and hats are always in-need and welcomed this time of year. Another easy way to help is by donating your paper and plastic grocery bags. These bags help keep goods that clients pick up at CSC clean and dry during these wet months.

Part of our partnership with CSC includes donation barrels in our Oregon City, McLoughlin, and Happy Valley branches. We accept donations, and deliver them to CSC, year-round. We are proud to be a community liaison helping get the word out about their services to the community, in hopes of reaching those who need them most. Want to learn more about CSC?
