Our Story

Our Story

Boldly growing to new heights while deepening our community roots.

Every organization has a story, and this is ours. We look forward to being a part of your story, too.

In the Beginning...

We started serving our community in 1957. Back in those days, our name was CLACKCO Federal Credit Union, and our community consisted of county, municipal, state, and federal employees who worked in Clackamas County.

As a credit union, who we can serve is defined by our charter. There must be a “common bond” between all of our members, whether it’s a common employer, industry, or area of residence.

In 1984, CLACKCO merged with Milwaukie Community Credit Union and became Clackamas Federal Credit Union.

The Story Continues

Beginning in 2003, we were granted a charter change that allowed the credit union to serve anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Clackamas County. This “Community Charter” greatly expanded who we could serve, and kicked off a period of growth. New branches were added in communities throughout Clackamas County.

In 2021, a charter expansion allowed the credit union to begin serving anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington, and Yamhill counties. Our governing regulatory agency, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) can grant charter expansions when the credit union demonstrates an unmet need in the proposed new membership. The great thing about this is that it keeps our focus on meeting the common interests and needs of one specific group of people.

We immediately got to work getting to know our expanded community, and making plans for how we can best serve all of you.

Preparing for the Next Chapter

In 2022, we decided to change our name to demonstrate our commitment to our entire service area, and began searching for locations to expand our branch network.

In 2023, Embold Credit Union was born. Our name is new, but the important things remain the same — our commitment to serving our members and our communities.

One Common Storyline

Through all of the changes in our story, some things have remained constant. We’re proud to have a volunteer Board of Directors elected from the membership. We’re committed to bringing innovative financial services to our membership, including ITIN lending services, Payday Alternative Loans, and financial planning specific to families of special needs children. And we’re dedicated to making an impact in our communities through volunteerism, investment, and fundraising.

Our roots run deep in our communities, and we’re looking forward to cultivating new relationships in our larger service area. If you’re ready to do your banking where you can see the impact of every dollar you invest, join us, and together we’ll Boldly Grow.
